Your Members

The Authority has a legal responsibility to provide a Fire and Rescue Service for the whole of East Sussex and Brighton & Hove and is made up of 18 councillors:

  • 12 Nominated by East Sussex County Council
  • 6 Nominated by Brighton & Hove City Council

The Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive reports to the Fire Authority which has the ultimate responsibility for such things as:

  • Deciding how many Fire Stations are needed
  • How many Fire Fighters
  • How many Fire Engines
  • How much money needs to be raised from local taxes to pay for the service

Members are not paid a salary for their work, but they do receive allowances. By law, all members of the Authority are required to complete a declaration of interest form, the details of which are published annually.
